Some big news: the federal election has been called, and we’re going to the polls to cast expelliarmus on May 3.
Either that, or my grim prediction of 23 May 2022 comes horribly true.
I would like to be wrong — would LOVE to be wrong in fact — and sure, recent polling suggests voters are unimpressed by HWMNBN’s thought-bubbles and lack of substance.
His evil genius’ ideas so far (sacking 40,000 public servants, tax-deductible business lunches for his rich mates, nuclear reactors) are all weighing against him.
But weighing for him is the international slide towards right-wing politics.
HWMNBN is actively recruiting younger males by aligning himself with the “speaks his mind” alpha male persona of his American idol: “Young males feel disenfranchised and they feel ostracised.”
And he’s right. But its not just young men: Voters everywhere are handing their ticket to bigots, zealots, racists and warmongers, and then waking up in a cold sweat.
If HWMNBN had stuck to his core beliefs (anti-First Nations, anti-LGTBQIA+, anti-immigration, anti-“woke”, anti asylum seekers, anti-muggles) then it would be game over for our incumbent Prime Minister Anthony ‘Albo’ Albanese.
But, if we bash our right wing politicians for asslicking Trump, then we should also note that our leftwingers (to their peril) are doomstepping with the Democrats at least in one crucial aspect:
Is Albo getting through to the kids? Maybe not. But HWMNBN has blundered too, and strayed from his own version of Project 2025.
The ironic postscript to all this is that these “hard men of the right” call progressives ‘snowflakes’ yet turn out to be the most delicate petals of all.
To the swinging voter, beware: Post-election dissonance hits hard.
For example, in the US the long hot night of Trump’s honeymoon yields to cold light of day. Lay down with dogs, you wake up with fleas. Many new Republicans are quietly tossing their MAGA caps and folding up their confedereate flags.
Why?
But on May 5 it will be too late for regret, Australia. Your name will be on the list for all to see, thanks to our compulsory voting system. If you vote for HWMNBN then you become responsible for everything he does and will be held to account.
Watch him simper as Trump bails out Tesla.
Watch him turn his back on Ukraine.
Hear him laugh as thousands are sent to concentration camps “deportation centres” again.
No monster, maybe, but a spiteful revenger and a Trump stooge.
Our only hope is that we Australians, our press, and our parliament can keep HWMNBN on a short leash. Get this wrong and we’ll need expecto patronum because, if he wins, the dementors are coming.
