One of the 2021 Dr Charles Perkins Prize winners, 23 year old Benjamin Wilson, a proud LGBTQIA+ Wiradjuri man studying a BA (Arts & Communications) at Sydney Uni, had the following to say when accepting his prize:

Since Invasion, Aboriginal men have been represented as hyper-masculine … that’s fed into the idea that all of our men need to be warriors; the protector; super blokey-blokey.

But you know, if I’m strutting down Oxford Street in a pair of heels, I’m still a warrior, I’m just going to do it with my nails painted.

Isn’t that fabulous. And so inspirational to all the young ATSI lads out west. Who says we’re not making progress!
