I could be writing about the American provocateur who bit the bullet today (Charlie Kirk, remember him?) but instead here’s a delicious nothingburger from the political wilds of the conservative right.
Mid-tier nobody Silly Stuart Smith has been forced to resign over text messages he sent in December 2024, wherein fun was poked at the party’s women’s council, and mock directed at an elderly female MP.
Here’s the “horrific misogynistic bullying” as reported in The Australian:
In one text, a male staffer asked Silly Stuart whether the women’s council had reached any resolutions during a meeting. “They passed it unanimously after two men told them they had to,” was Silly Stuart’s reply.
“Well that’s grim,” the male staffer responded, while a female staffer added: “But painfully accurate.”
Silly Stuart then posted a photo of a martini with the caption: “F U LWCV”, an abbreviation for the Liberal Women’s Council Victoria.
Leaked messages show the male staffer said of elderly MP Bev after she met Silly Stuart in his office, that “Mondays are already bad. If Stuart Smith meets Bev every Monday — I’ll be WFH,”
When another staffer asked for a photo of MP Bev “asleep in the chamber”, Silly Stuart shared a video of what appeared to be MP Bev waving a flag, commenting: “Here’s Bev with dementia.”
And that’s it. Heinous, right?
Contrast this with the menu at a 2013 fundraiser for conservative MP Mal Brough, featuring “Julia Gillard Kentucky Fried Quail — Small Breasts, Huge Thighs & A Big Red Box” as a menu item.
Leader of the Opposition Tony ‘Mad’ Abbott told PM Gillard to get over it and move on. So we did, and now in 2025 the pendulum has fully swung.
Not only do we punt mid-tier dickheads like Silly Stuart Smith for virtually nothing, we (as in current Opposition Leader Sussan Ley) is prepared to punt insolent frontbenchers like Jacinta ‘Make America Australia Great Again’ Nampijinpa Price for causing slight affront to our Indian mates.
Which I totes understand and respect; you could almost call it “cultural growth”. But it also reminds you of everything you need to know about conservatives.
What a bunch of steaming turds they really are.
