It’s not often that I’d begin a post with a citation from Elon Musk, but it provocatively frames the question:

How shitfaced is the ‘senior advisor’ to the POTUS? We know he likes his Special K for breakfast, lunch and dinner, but statements like that make me suspect he’s fallen down the K-hole and can’t find his way out.

But that’s a side-issue.

The real issue is this:

The underlying hypocrisy of Space Karen’s post is that cancel-culture has become the tool of the ‘Woke Right’ in the Trumpist dog-whistling world of white victimhood.

That’s a big sentence, so let me unpack it.

Lest we forget, cancel culture was born from political correctness, an in-joke among socially aware American progressives that became weaponised by hysterical hillbillys and cynical conservatives in the 90’s.

Similarly, conservatives appropriated ‘woke’ from the Black community and weaponised it to shut down debates they couldn’t win. The standard tactic was to dismiss it as “woke” and then claim you just “owned” a “libtard”.

Sticks and stones, right?

In a recent Axios poll, 65% of progressives approve of calling people out on social media for posting offensive content to hold them accountable. 62% of conservatives disagree, saying they shouldn’t be ‘silenced by the woke mob‘.

The snowflakes on the Woke Right should be free to say and do what they like without fear of repercussions. Isn’t that right Adolf … I mean Elon.

Musk did not hesitate to reinstate banned X profiles and relax content moderation in the name of free speech, resulting in an overnight 70% increase in hate speech.

In Elon’s mind freedom of speech means freedom from consequences. His response to the uptick of awfulness offers yet another insight into his ketamine-addled mind:

Don’t worry be happy. Just stay positive and all the bad men will go away!

Except they didn’t, because Musk ‘opened the gates of hell‘ and let all the bad men back in, which is as useful a definition of hegemony as anything I’ve read.

Here’s another one:

All while casting themselves as liberal and tolerant, these illiberal figures construct straw man arguments from the legitimate concerns of minority perspectives and dismiss them as cancel culture; this allows for the powerful and privileged to reinforce political and social hierarchies, uphold majority rule, and crush opposition.

As a lodestar for the Woke Right, the real Elon Musk left the building a long time ago. He left behind a doppelgänger in a persistent hallucinogenic-disordered state tasked with preserving and increasing his nett wealth.

Nothing else.

And right now the doppelgänger is failing.

I hate cancel-culture, but to say it is gone has nobody fooled. Wokism was such an effective tool that the Right stole it from us to ensure power, money and influence remain right where they like it to be.

Sorry zoomer, time’s up.

If you want your fair share then it’s time to stop chasing participation awards and get stuck in. We need woke, so it’s time to take it back.
