The Doomsday Clock was created in 1947 to monitor the threat of armageddon arising from the nuclear arms race between the US and USSR.
It started ticking six years after President Truman ordered two ‘pre-emptive’ nuclear attacks on Japan, incinerating 250,000 civilians.
It has been ticking every since.
President Trump has shown his Trumanesque proclivity for cowardly attacks by bombing Iran “preemptively”. Pre-empting what, exactly, we’re not sure, because his own spooks say Iran has no nukes.
But America under Trump is like a whipped bitch, and like any timid dog is most likely to bite. Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu are war criminals, snapping and snarling at the world, trying to look tough.
So I’m watching The Day After (1983) again, as a primer on how Americans imagine the unravelling will begin.
It shows, I think fairly realistically, how people react when the automated ’emergency broadcast system’ suddenly interrupts their doomscrolling and the world ends.
Iran’s probably not dumb enough to give DJT the excuse to drop a ‘big beautiful bomb’ on Tehran in “self defence” but they can easily lock the US into another forever war.
Because there will be retaliation for America’s aggressions in the Middle East. You will see attacks on home soil that ratchet tensions towards martial law and civil war.
But all this rock-throwing in the Middle East could just be smoke and mirrors.
What was the real reason Israel/US attacked Iran out of the blue?
Was it really for antimony or oil or to repair the share price of US companies constituting the ‘military industrial complex’?
Nah.
I think we’re seeing classic diversionary tactics “Hey, everybody! Forgetski what’s going on in Ukraine, look over there!” sorta thing.
Because the Cold War never ended, and it’s 89 seconds from midnight.
